Mary Ann's Story

I live in Houston, Texas and have since 1969. After graduating from LSU, I went to work for the Houston Independent School District. I have been a teacher, reading specialist, curriculum writer, supervisor and principal. I am happy to say that I still enjoy my profession as an elementary school principal. No two days are ever the same! I married John in 1972. We have a beautiful daughter, Sara Jane, and a handsome son-in-law, Tim. Sara Jane graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown in December with her degree in urban education. Tim is working on his master's degree in history and hopes to complete it in August. We are proud of both of them. John and I are definitely not empty nesters! We have four very spoiled cats. John takes good care of me, has many technical interests, and life long hobbies; vehicles, photography. and classical music. I like house reno...Expand for more
vation projects and decorating! In other words, I am good at spending money! This is sounding like a letter in a Christmas card. Let me hear from you! Since I wrote my profile, probably around 2007, Sara Jane and Tim gave us a smart and beautiful granddaughter, Genevieve Ann. Ginny turned 3 on April 4, 2014. On August 31, 2012, I worked my last day. After 43 years with Houston ISD, I decided that I would like some "me" time. I must say that I don't know when I had time to work. I am in a quilt group in LaPorte, Texas; I am reworking the entire front yard; I smock dresses for Ginny when a feel a massive dose of patience coming on; and most of all, I read something other than professional books! Sara Jane and Tim live in Pearland which makes it easy to be around Ginny for not only us, but Tim's parents, as well. They live in LaPorte, Texas. Hope all is well with you!

Well, my ten month journey came to a happy conclusion this morning! I have not talked about this with many of you as the subject left me feeling speechless, and, some of you know. I have been battling cancer since last No

I can never compete with Elida Troutman’s beautiful flowers, but I do have a pretty hibiscus! I went to a fantastic hibiscus workshop Saturday at Maas Nursery in Seabrook with Patty Holmes. We both learned so much from Joe
The last of June, I found a sweet panel to make an Advent Calendar for Sara Jane and family. The lady at the store told me it would take about three hours to put it together. She had made the display item on the sewing mach

I got carried away today at Brookwood Community and purchased a new hibiscus. It didn’t have a name so I looked it up on the DuPont Nursery website and I think it is an Eye of Kali. I have it in a dark red ceramic pot. It i
